Description: This member type is for individual advocates who are directly involved in the delivery or supervision of public defense services. (It is intended to include all practitioners, regardless of profession, as well as staff on oversight boards or central agencies who may not represent clients but administer the defense function, and public defense board and/or commission members. Law school clinicians who represent clients are also considered direct service providers.)

On March 18, 2017 - the 54th anniversary of the Gideon v. Wainright decision - NAPD published its Foundational Principles, which are recommended to NAPD members and other persons and organizations interested in advancing the cause of equal justice for accused persons.
