Client Centered Perspective on Plea Negotiations

February 27, 2018, 2:00 p.m. Eastern, 60 minutes

Webinar Faculty:  Kate Mason, Circuit Public Defender, Augusta Judicial Circuit

About the Webinar:  Plea negotiations are a large part of the practice of most public defenders. However, our clients are the ones who bear the burden of the resolution. How do we as public defenders engage in client centered practice in this area?

About the Faculty: Katherine M. Mason, “Kate”, Circuit Public Defender.  A graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law in 1989, Kate was appointed Circuit Public Defender for the Augusta Judicial Circuit in 2011.  She joined the office when it was created on January 1, 2005 as an Assistant Public Defender.  Kate is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer in Georgia and West Virginia.  Kate is admitted to practice in all of the trial and appellate courts in Georgia and West Virginia and the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Georgia and West Virginia.  Her career includes law clerkships, private practice, Assistant Attorney General in West Virginia, Assistant Solicitor General, Richmond County State Court, and public defender in Glynn County prior to starting as an assistant public defender in Augusta in 2005. There is no higher calling than serving those who need help in the hardest moments of their lives.  It is the job of our office to do it well, represent them zealously in a client centered manner.
