No reasonable soul would permit this parent to continue to supervise and care for any child. This parent is unfit. This parent abuses, tortures, traumatizes. This parent is the state of California. There's this parent I know.
This parent locks their teenager away in windowless, human cages for much of each day and night. They permit the teen a few hours, if at all, of outdoor time. They make the juvenile wear the same clothes daily, brown pants, tan t-shirt, green sweatshirt, devoid of any nuance or personality. They prevent the child from seeing his brothers and sisters. This parent shackles this minor anytime they leave home. They often permit the young one to sit alone in rooms full of adult offenders. In fact, when this child turns 18, this parent might send the child off to live in a warehouse of condemned adults.
No reasonable soul would permit this parent to continue to supervise and care for any child. This parent is unfit. This parent abuses, tortures, traumatizes.
This parent is the state of California. This parent takes wardship and custody of our youth who have committed crimes. This machine of juvenile halls, probation departments, youth authorities and prisons, steps in as the parent to our needy, vulnerable children. This government apparatus rears these kids, often our black and brown babies, in ways that none of us would ever accept for our own progeny. When these kids, perhaps inevitably, commit crimes as adults, the state abdicates any responsibility and instead just confines these damaged beings again. The same state that raised our boys and girls locks them up, repeatedly.
This parent doesn't shepherd, nurture or heal our kids. It scars them.
