About the Event: Be Well Wednesdays will take place on Zoom on Wednesdays at 3:10-4:00 pm Eastern (12:10-1:00 pm Pacific).
Each session will include an experiential practice (meditation, mindfulness, gratitude, journaling, etc.) and facilitated discussion about sustaining well-being in public defense.
About the Faculty: For years, WI State Public Defender (SPD) Training Director Gina Pruski spent so much time with the goings-on in her head that she missed a lot of things that were happening around her. That all started to change in 2014 when a friend introduced her to mindfulness—something Gina had heard of but didn’t think she’d ever be able to do. As Training Director and a member of the SPD’s leadership team, Gina brought mindfulness to SPD staff in 2014 after completing a mindfulness certification program and obtaining grant funding to bring mindfulness training to public defenders around the state. Since 2014, Gina and the SPD training team have developed a variety of programs focused on public defender wellness and are instrumental in integrating wellness principles and practices into the culture of SPD. A 1992 graduate of the University of WI Law School in Madison, Gina began her legal career as a staff attorney in the SPD's Trial Division and later served as Deputy Legal Counsel and Legislative Liaison. She now serves on the Task Force on Wisconsin Lawyer Well-Being and is a volunteer for the Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Program.
