Representing Transgender Clients
February 11, 2019 @ 2:00 p.m. Eastern, 120 minutes
Webinar Faculty: Connor Barusch, Massachusetts Public Defender currently serving in the Criminal Defense Training Unit.
About the Webinar: You've been assigned to represent a transgender client. What do you need to know to help ask the right questions and to advocate for your client? What resources are available? What do you say to a client who you think might be transgender but are not sure? How can we all be better communicators with all of our clients and help create space in our attorney-client relationship? And what do we say to the judge/jury?
At the core of our role as advocates for indigent people is a commitment to providing client centered representation. How do we best achieve that with LGBTQ clients who are more likely than straight clients to suffer at the hands of police, court officers and correctional saff? How can we further our clients' interests both in and out of the courtroom?
