Webinar: Get Out of Bed, Put on a Suit, and Dominate Every Video Court Proceeding
June 9, 2020, 11:00 a.m. Eastern, 60 minutes
Webinar Faculty: Jennifer Sellitti, Director of Training and Communication, New Jersey Office of the Public Defender
About the Webinar: Let’s face it, conducting a court proceeding on a video platform is every defense attorney’s nightmare…or is it? In this presentation, we’ll talk about the performance aspects of conducting virtual hearings. We will cover everything from how to: set up your camera; prep your client, use voice, gesture and tone; structure arguments; present exhibits; impeach witnesses; and even cross examine. During the program, we will be joined by some special guests from across the country who have been kind enough to share their tips on many of these subjects. See you on Zoom!
About the Faculty: Jennifer Sellitti is Director of Training & Communications for the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender (NJ OPD), where she is responsible for teaching trial advocacy and substantive law to public defenders in all of the agency’s practice areas. She works at the direction of the public defender on special projects that impact OPD clients such as forensic science education and litigation, police accountability, and criminal justice reform. In addition, she represents clients charged with serious felonies at trials and in Miller resentencing hearings. Prior to her appointment to director, she was the managing attorney for the Middlesex Trial Region and an assistant deputy public defender in the Essex County Adult Region. Jennifer began her legal career at Massachusetts Correctional Legal Services, where she worked on the organization’s Prison Brutality Project investigating claims of prison violence and representing inmates housed in solitary confinement at super maximum security prisons in civil rights lawsuits against correctional facilities and individual officers. Jennifer serves as faculty at trial skills programs across the country and speaks nationally at professional conferences about issues surrounding legal representation for the accused. She serves on the Advisory Board of the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Forensic Science Major and on the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Corrections Committee. A graduate of Suffolk University Law School, Jennifer obtained a B.S. degree in public relations from Boston University. When she is not training lawyers or advocating for clients, Jennifer and her partner operate D/V Tenacious, a dive vessel that discovers, explores and salvages shipwrecks in the North Atlantic.
