Meet Up: Capital Practitioners Meet Up
Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern, 60 minutes
Meet Up Facilitator: Lorinda Youngcourt
About the Meet Up: NAPD's Capital Practitioners are hosting an hour meeting to discuss and share ideas about capital litigation and investigation during the extremely challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic and how our clients can benefit from the public outrage of George Floyd's murder by law enforcement, the ongoing activism of Black Lives Matter, and demands for criminal justice equity and reformation. We will start the conversation by sharing judicial and prosecutorial responses to the pandemic and criminal justice inequality in the jurisdictions in which we practice. From there we will brainstorm how to defend our clients during a global pandemic in a time of social unrest demanding criminal justice equity and reformation.
About the Host Faculty: Lorinda is chair of NAPD's Education Committee and Capital Practioners Subcommittee. In her 32 years as a criminal defense attorney she has represented capital clients at trial, on direct appeal, in state post-conviction, habeas corpus, and clemency proceedings. She served as the chief defender in Lawrence County, Indiana (2010-2015) and King County, Washington (2015-2018). She is currently an Assistant Federal Defender in the Eastern District of Washington and the District of Idaho.
