Attorney Fellowship
About the Exoneration Project: The Exoneration Project (EP) represents individuals who have been convicted of crimes of which they are innocent. We investigate and litigate post-conviction cases with the goal of exonerating the wrongfully convicted. The EP has a unique, collaborative structure: it operates as a clinic at the University of Chicago Law School and is staffed in part with attorneys and legal workers from the national civil rights law firm Loevy & Loevy.

Job Description: The EP is seeking a Fellow to join our Chicago office for a full-time, two-year term. The position offers extensive opportunities to work on all phases of litigation and to work collaboratively with other lawyers in the EP on post-conviction claims. We are looking for people with the following attributes: strong writers, creative thinkers, effective communicators and collaborators, independent in their work, and passionate about advocating for the rights of people wrongfully convicted and imprisoned.
The Fellow will participate in all aspects of cases including conducting investigations, filing pleadings in court, arguing motions, handling court appearances, writing appellate briefs, maintaining attorney-client communications, and making strategic decisions in the best interest of the client.
The EP is a client-centered, nimble advocacy organization that aspires to produce the best possible legal outcome for our clients.  As a staff, we accomplish work quickly and efficiently and do whatever justice demands for our clients.  For this reason, an ideal Fellow must be client-focused, motivated, and able to work independently.
Note, we are currently working remotely as much as possible, however this position is ultimately based in the EP’s West Loop office (Fulton Market area) in Chicago. Some travel is required.
Term: This is a term position that will last for two years from the date employment begins. Our intention is for this position to begin by Fall 2021. The position may be extended or made permanent at the EP’s discretion.
Compensation is $75,000 per year plus bonus, with full benefits.
