Capital Defense Attorney
The Louisiana Capital Assistance Center (LCAC) is soliciting applications for a capital defense attorney position in our New Orleans office. Applicants should have, at a minimum, three years criminal experience and a demonstrated commitment to indigent defense representation; capital-specific experience is preferred. Depending upon experience, applicants will be considered for either an associate (2nd chair) or lead (1st chair) position.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> The LCAC is a non-profit public interest law firm founded in 1993. &nbsp;The LCAC represents indigent defendants in capital cases &ndash; primarily at trial, but also on direct appeal, in state post-conviction and in federal habeas proceedings.&nbsp; We represent clients in Louisiana, Texas and in federal court.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> The capital defense attorney will be part of a team of full-time capital defense attorneys and will work on case teams with mitigation specialists, paralegals and other attorneys representing clients in capital proceedings<br /> &nbsp;<br /> The LCAC has been at the cutting edge of capital defense litigation, including in areas such as prosecutorial misconduct, racial and religious discrimination, indigent defense funding, and the capital prosecution of those with serious mental impairments.&nbsp; &nbsp;In the context of its casework, the LCAC pursues impact litigation in critical areas so as to advance the position of indigent capital defendants more generally.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> The LCAC has adopted four key values in its practice: excellence in the representation of clients; client-centeredness; a commitment to service; and, humility.&nbsp; The successful applicant will embrace these values in their approach to the work.
