Human Resources & Program Manager
The Office of the Defender General, Vermont's public defense system, has a full-time opening for an attorney or experienced legal professional with an educational or employment background in human resources or management. This position, which is part of the department’s management team, will focus on human resources management, criminal and juvenile justice policy, and department administration. This individual will work closely with public defense staff and contractors, criminal justice personnel, legislators, and other Vermont agencies and departments.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Handling all HR functions for the department.
- Expert approvals in criminal and juvenile cases.
- Investigation of complaints against staff attorneys and contractors.
- Legislative coverage and scheduling.
- May serve on committees and commissions.
- If a licensed attorney, may represent clients in specific cases as directed by the Defender General.
- Caseload reporting, including working in Excel with entry of cases.
- Web page content and management.
- Listserve administration.
- Assisting with trainings, including development of presentations and managing all aspects of in-person trainings.
- Financial back-up as required

Education Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in public or business management. Law or master’s degree and leadership/human resources training highly preferred.
Employment Qualifications:
A minimum of four years in law, human resources, criminal justice or other relevant management experience.
