Assistant Public Defenders: District III (Upper Eastern Shore)
The Maryland Office of the Public Defender (OPD) seeks dynamic, dedicated, and client-centered litigators to serve as Assistant Public Defenders in our Upper Eastern Shore office (serving Talbot, Caroline, Kent, Cecil, and Queen Anne’s Counties). An Assistant Public Defender combines their demonstrated dedication to the representation of indigent clients with their strong litigation skills to provide exceptional representation. Assistant Public Defenders are expected to work independently in managing an active caseload while simultaneously working in a team-oriented environment focused on a client-centered approach to advocacy. OPD is seeking to fill positions in our Talbot County and Kent/Queen Anne’s County offices.
District Three attorneys are generally assigned to one specific office in the district but must remain flexible to provide coverage to the other counties within District III. OPD will consider candidates at all experience levels for this position.

•Passionate and zealous representation of clients charged with criminal and traffic matters at every stage of the criminal process including but not limited to: bail review proceedings, bench or jury trials, violation of probation hearings, and modification of sentence hearings.
•Ability to competently and resourcefully prepare for and manage an active caseload.
•Effectively and compassionately communicate with clients, colleagues, and service providers to ensure optimal outcomes for clients.
•Continuously seek professional development through training, continuing legal education, and trial skills courses.
•Ensure clients are consistently heard and respected.

•Active membership in good standing in the Maryland Bar or Bar of another state. Attorneys barred in another state must become members of the Maryland Bar within 18 months of start date.
