MAC Juvenile Resource Attorney
The Juvenile Resource Attorney (JRA) will be responsible for providing support to the Bexar County-managed assigned counsel (MAC) panel attorneys in juvenile matters.  The JRA attorney will be available to sit with court-appointed attorneys as first or second chair counsel if feasible and no conflict of interest exists. The JRA will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining legal resources made available through the MAC--physically and electronically--for court-appointed attorneys in their work of appointed cases. The JRA will be responsible for managing and monitoring intake assessment and appropriate assignment of attorneys to cases. The JRA will be responsible for the review of financial claims and monitoring adherence to caseload guidelines and provide support, when needed, with pretrial matters, litigation, or trial issues.  The JRA will assist the Executive Director, the Trial Division Chief, and the Director of Professional Development & Technology with training, publications, and other duties as needed in the field of juvenile defense.
Serves as subject matter expert in juvenile, individually motivated and operating with a sense of urgency and personal accountability 
Support the Bexar County Managed Assigned Counsel (MAC) panel attorneys in juvenile matters
Serve as the primary liaison between the MAC office and juvenile courts administration
Monitor and manage legal resources made available through the MAC--physically and electronically--for panel attorneys in their work of appointed cases
Monitor and manage intake assessment and appropriate assignment of attorneys to cases
Review financial claims, forward vouchers for payment and monitor adherence to caseload guidelines
Provide support, when needed, with pretrial matters, litigation, or trial issues
Assist the Director, the Trial Division Chief, and the Director of Professional Development & Technology with training and publications
Support the active recruitment of qualified attorneys to serve on the juvenile panel
Perform other duties as needed

Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence, and four (4) years of juvenile defense litigation experience in State and Federal court; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Respectable knowledge of the juvenile justice systems; respectable knowledge of case law; knowledge of law enforcement operations; knowledge of medical and mental health terminology
  • Skill in supervising employees; skill in legal research; skill in negotiation; skill in making presentations; skill to communicate effectively with hostile, abusive, and irrational individuals
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to operate a personal computer; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside agencies, and the public
  • Must be licensed to practice in the State of Texas
  • Demonstrates technological intuitiveness
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
     Must clear a pre-employment physical
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
