MAC Immigration (Padilla) Attorney
The Immigration (Padilla) resource attorney (I: RA) will be responsible for providing support to the Bexar County managed assigned counsel (MAC) panel attorneys on immigration matters. The I: RA will provide immigration consultations for attorneys and clients, however, will not represent defendants on their immigration cases. The I: RA attorney will be available to sit with assigned counsel attorneys as first or second chair if feasible and no conflict of interest exists. The I: RA will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining legal resources made available through the MAC--physically and electronically--for court appointed attorneys on their work of assigned cases. The I: RA will be responsible for managing and monitoring intake assessment and appropriate assignment of attorneys to cases. The I: RA will be responsible for review of financial claims and monitoring adherence to caseload guidelines and provide support, when needed, with pretrial matters, litigation, or trial issues. The I: RA will assist the Director and Trial Division Chief with training, publications, and other duties as needed. The I: RA will also keep panel attorneys apprised of legislative changes and emerging issues in the field of immigration law.
- Provide immigration consultations with panel attorneys and their clients

- Support the Bexar County Managed Assigned Counsel (MAC) panel attorneys in immigration matters
- Serve as the primary liaison between MAC office and the courts on immigration matters
- Assist panel attorneys as first or second chair counsel if feasible and no conflict of interest exists
- Monitor and manage legal resources made available through the MAC--physically and electronically--for panel attorneys in their work on appointed cases
- Monitor and manage intake assessment and appropriate assignment of attorneys to cases
- Review financial claims and monitor adherence to caseload guidelines
- Provide support, when needed, with pretrial matters, litigation, or trial issues on immigration matters

Requirements |
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence
- Must be a member of the State Bar of Texas in good standing
- Must be licensed by the State of Texas to practice law
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience in the area of immigration law
- Must have taken court appointments in criminal law matters and have at least one (1) year or more experience in the area of criminal law
- Must have in-depth knowledge of the complex intersection between immigration law and state criminal law
- Must practice client-centered representation
- Strong public speaking skills and interpersonal skills
- Skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously; skill in communicating effectively with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy
- Ability to adjust to rapidly fluctuating situations; ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, co-workers, County employees, Department Heads, Elected/Appointed Officials, outside organizations, attorneys, the news media and the public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical
