Experience Attorneys- Integrated Domestic Violence Unit
Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) is seeking applications from experienced attorneys to represent clients in our Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Unit.
IDV attorneys represent clients in Brooklyn’s IDV Court, where the client’s Criminal and Family cases are heard before a single Supreme Court Justice. In this hybrid legal forum, attorneys must be fully versed in criminal defense practice, as well as in issues of child support, custody and visitation that would normally be heard in Family Court.
 Those who choose to apply should have the following qualifications:
  1. Three years criminal defenseexperience preferably in a public defender setting.
  2. Demonstrated experience litigating cases in Family Court involving family offenses, child support, custody and visitation.
  3. Excellent oral and written advocacy skills.
  4. Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting.
  5. Familiarity with the collateral consequences arising from a criminal or a family court case and willingness to utilize the services that BDS offers its clients.
Those attorneys who wish to apply for a position in this unit should submit the following:
  1. A statement of interest, delineating the reason the applicant wishes to be a part of this Unit.
  2. A resume, highlighting education, training and experience in the defense of criminal and family court matters.
  3. Any special qualifications or skills that the applicant believes make him/her an appropriate candidate for the position.
  4. A sample of the applicant’s legal writing.

October 30, 2018: NAPD releases a video about its achievements over the 5 years since forming in November in 2013.
