Forensic Social Worker, Appellate Unit
Public Defender office in New York City seeks a highly competent social worker for its Re-Entry Unit. Viable applicant must be able to strongly advocate for incarcerated clients who are either (1) appearing before the parole board; and/or (2) preparing to be released from detention. Responsibilities include assisting clients prepare written submissions, parole hearing preparation and developing discharge plans. 
Applicant should have 2 to 4 years of experience and a passion matched with an intellectual prowess for criminal justice issues.   Ideal candidate must possess strong assessment and writing skills; the ability to encapsulate and transform client histories into persuasive and cogent arguments is essential.  Additionally, optimal candidate must possess the temperament to work collaboratively long-term cases.  Significant travel to New York State correctional facilities will be a large component of the position.
