Pre-Trial Release Client Advocate

The mission of the Orleans Public Defenders Office is to fight for our clients by providing excellent client-centered representation, reforming the system, and partnering with the community.

The primary role of the OPD Pre-Trial Release Client Advocate (CA) is to assist and support attorneys in pre-trial release and bond advocacy. The CA will provide administrative and advocacy support at First Appearance sessions and assisting Bond Advocacy Attorney in preparing and filing appropriate motions, including bond review motions. The CA will be responsible for making initial bond calls and updating the case management system, as well as the appropriate staff attorneys, with all relevant information. The CA will also work with the Bond Advocacy Attorney to provide a wide range of advocacy support services, including but not limited to, hold analysis; follow up interviews; bond exhaustion; property and/or money release; detention alternative facilitation; and bail modification support. The CA will collaborate with others in facilitating the logistics of client’s successful release from jail to the placement.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated interest in serving underprivileged communities. Ability to work well with people of various socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and educational backgrounds is a must. Candidates must be flexible, highly-motivated, and proficient at multitasking. The ideal candidate will have very strong communication skills and will work well in a team setting. Ability to use and understand basic computer functions is a must. Fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese and familiarity with New Orleans service providers are a plus.
