Post conviction attorney
The EP is seeking a full-time attorney to litigate post-conviction claims on our clients’ behalf. The position offers extensive opportunities to act as lead litigator in cases through all phases of litigation and to work collaboratively with other lawyers in the EP. Ideal candidates are strong writers, creative thinkers, effective communicators and collaborators, independent in their work, and passionate about advocating for the rights of people wrongfully imprisoned.  EP attorneys routinely participate in complex evidentiary hearings and retrials, so courtroom advocacy is a critical component of our work.  Attorneys at the EP participate in all other aspects of the case too, including conducting investigations, filing pleadings in court, arguing motions, handling court appearances, writing appellate briefs, maintaining attorney-client communications, and making strategic decisions in the best interest of the client.

The EP is a client-centered, nimble advocacy organization that aspires to produce the best possible legal outcome for our clients.  As a staff, we accomplish work quickly and efficiently and do whatever justice demands for our clients.  For this reason, an ideal attorney must be client-focused, motivated, and able to work independently. Attorneys can expect to be very busy but must also be able to deliver exceptional work product.
The position is based in the EP’s West Loop office (Fulton Market area) in Chicago. Some travel is required.
