DIRECTOR OF CONNECTICUT INNOCENCE PROJECT/POST-CONVICTION UNIT
The Division of Public Defender Services is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Connecticut Innocence Project/Post-Conviction Unit. 
 
The Director manages the Division’s post-conviction practice which includes two Units, the habeas corpus unit, which provides representation in conviction based habeas corpus and other post-conviction matters and the Connecticut Innocence Project (CTIP) which handles matters impacting actual innocence, and wrongful conviction.   The Division has a separate Appellate Unit which handles appeals.   The Director oversees a staff which includes Attorneys, Paralegals, Investigators and Support Staff.   The Director’s role includes   handling an active case load and serving as a resource to staff.  The Director advises the Chief Public Defender and Deputy Chief Public Defender on matters impacting actual innocence, wrongful convictions and habeas issues, including development and implementation of legislation, policies and procedures relating to post-conviction practice and overall criminal justice reform. The Director develops alliances and partnerships with State and National criminal justice and post-conviction stakeholders. This Unit is a member of the Innocence Network, a coalition of Innocence Organizations in the fifty States and abroad.  The mission of the Unit is to investigate cases of wrongly convicted individuals and seek their exoneration.

Requirements Overview of Qualifications
 
A law degree from an accredited law school and admitted to the Connecticut Bar and have been actively practicing for at least ten (10) years of which includes extensive experience in criminal defense trial work.
