Public Defender Social Worker, Manchester, TN
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Completion of needs assessments for clients referred by attorneys of the 14th Judicial District’s Public Defender’s office as well as making individualized recommendations regarding the client’s service needs.
- Linkage to substance abuse and mental health treatment; resource assistance related to housing, employment and education; release and alternative sentence plan preparation; and general case management.
- Engaging clients in local jails, public defender’s office, and in the community to encourage a supportive relationship, to monitor resource utilization, and to assess overall client stability.
Support services such as crisis intervention and supportive counseling.
Use an established process model to move participants from the initial referral to the evaluation phase, documenting each participating defendant’s progress and setbacks throughout the process.
Responsible for a six months and one-year follow-up with clients to track recidivism and to report program data.
Adhering to TN Rules of Professional Conduct.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in social work preferred,
- Licensed Social Worker in the State of Tennessee or obtain licensure within one year of employment,
Must be very organized and have the ability to multitask,
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills,
Must have proficient knowledge of computer hardware and standard software including Word, Excel PowerPoint, the Internet and email applications,
Must authorize the release of any investigative and criminal records obtained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to the Tennessee Community Services Agency.
Background investigation must indicate no conviction of a felony.
