Assistant Public Defenders: Various Positions

The Maryland Office of the Public Defender (OPD) seeks dynamic, dedicated, and client-centered litigators to serve as Assistant Public Defenders in offices across Maryland. Assistant Public Defenders combine their demonstrated dedication to the representation of indigent clients with their strong litigation skills to provide exceptional representation. Attorneys in these positions are expected to work independently in managing an active caseload while simultaneously working in a team-oriented environment focused on a client-centered approach to advocacy. The projected start date for these positions is spring/summer 2021 (OPD will consider candidates who are not available to start until September 2021; however, a preference will be given to candidates available to start earlier). At this time we are accepting applications for the following jurisdictions:

 

Baltimore City, Montgomery County, and St. Mary’s County: Candidates at all experience levels welcome to apply. Placement representing clients in felony or misdemeanor cases will be based on criminal trial experience. 

 

Howard, Carroll, Anne Arundel, Prince George’s and Baltimore Counties: Candidates with 0-3 years of experience welcome to apply for District Court positions with the Misdemeanor Division.
