DEPUTY ASST PUBLIC DEFENDER MILFORD CT
Represents and advises indigent clients in cases involving misdemeanors, felonies, mental health commitments, Miller Graham, appeals, juvenile, child protection and family support magistrate issues; advises clients of rights, options, strategies, sentencing and responsibilities; represent and appear with clients at jury and court trials, administrative and court proceedings; review, evaluate and determine legal motions, pleas and other legal action on behalf of client; involved with Prosecutors, assistant attorneys, outside counsel, general or support enforcement agents in plea negotiations and other agreements; order investigations and subpoenas; requests social work services; study and interpret laws, court decisions and other legal authorities; may represent respondents in restraining order issues; prepares appellate and other briefs, motions and other legal documents; maintains extensive contact with agencies that provide services or are involved in the defense of clients; regularly visits correctional facilities or other locations where clients are located; maintains contact with clients and/or families; directs the appellate and other appeals efforts of assigned cases; presents cases to the Superior, Appellate and State Supreme Courts; performs extensive legal research; maybe involved in extensive briefing; maintains in-depth and updated knowledge of criminal defense, child protection and/or family support trial and appellate practices and law; prepares and/or examines complex and diverse records, exhibits, transcripts and tapes; participates in training programs; performs other related tasks. |

Applications are being accepted for a Deputy Assistant Public Defender for the Ansonia/Milford located in Milford. This is a combined JD/GA Court located in the along the shore south of New Haven Connecticut.
Desirable candidates should have experience in criminal defense and must be admitted to the Connecticut Bar.
Starting Salary is $72,458-81,506 based on experience with full State benefits. (New Hires)
